Results of the 2006 Weald Walkers Wander

HISTORY: In 1965 Croydon YHA Group decided to organise its own walking rally to combat the problem found in other walking rallies, where time restrictions punished slower walkers. The aim of the Weald Walkers Wander is for teams to use their skill and judgement to complete the route by answering questions and solving puzzles to find the route to the next checkpoint. It is a leisurely walk and not a race against time although an overall time limit of 7 hours will be set. It is open to anyone, of any age, who enjoys the countryside that surrounds us.

THE EVENT: The walk this year (2007) will be about 10 miles and based around Edenbridge,in Kent. You will need to solve clues to find each checkpoint and your map and compass skills will also be put to the test. Points are awarded for completing quizzes and games, at the checkpoints. A trophy is awarded to the winning team. Everyone who successfully completes the course will be awarded a certificate.

THE TEAMS: You will need to enter in teams of between 2 and 5 people. Everyone is welcome - young or not not so young, families or other groups, however at least one person in each team must be 16+.

DATE/TIME: Sunday 29th April 2007. Start times will be allocated between 9.00 - 10.00am, with team leaving at 3 minute intervals.

START/FINISH: The Scout Hall, Station Road, Edenbridge, Kent; grid ref 443 465. Advance booking is recommended.

WHAT TO BRING: The latest Explorer map 147 1:25,000 scale, pen and paper, compass, suitable footwear and clothing and some snacks for the way.

CHECKPOINTS: Cold drinks will be provided at all checkpoints. Hot drinks will be provided at the finish.
