Visitors/New Member’s Walk & Cycle Ride

Sunday 30th June

For both the Sunday Ramble/Cycle Ride, meet @ 10.00am, by the war memorial, near old Town Hall, Katharine Street, CR9 1ET. Walkers catch 466 bus to The Fox pub, Coulsdon. (Alternatively, walkers could drive to that pub by 10.50 am.) Walkers will be led on a circular route in the lovely countryside around Coulsdon, totalling 5 to 6 miles. Evening Walk along Happy Valley, starts at 8PM

The walk is about three miles long.   Either meet at The Fox pub in Coulsdon at 8PM or catch the bus 466 from Croydon.   There is a bus at 7.21 opposite East Croydon station or you catch it any stops along the way.   A drink at the Fox Pub after the walk.

Beatles Themed Walk

Sunday 14th July

The walk starts where they really started in 1962 ie the Abbey Road Studios near St Johns Wood tube station and end where they last performed in 1969 on the roof of the Apple HQ which is near Piccadilly Circus. In between we’ll visit places where they lived, worked  and played in the Swinging Sixties - oh and where some of them got arrested! Walk to the Chiltern Hills

Saturday 20th July

An outing to the Chiltern Hills, north of London, with a walk of varied terrain from Tring.   An easy journey from East Croydon using the Milton Keynes train.   Meet at 8.55 to catch the 9.10 train to Tring, arr 10.38. This train calls at all stations to Clapham Junction (9.40) so if you miss it at East Croydon, catch a fast train at 9.24 to Clapham Junc then go to platform 17.   Anyone in central London could…

Rustic Sunday, Rural Life Centre plus walk

Sunday 28th July

Visit the Rural Life Centre ("the largest countryside museum in the south of England") to discover about many countryside crafts and traditions.  The event, "Rustic Sunday", hosts a variety of expert demonstrators, who will share their knowledge and skills of some past and some enduring rural trades and activities, with a range of exhibits for us to study.  There will be a jazz band playing, plus an iron furnace and woodyard in action.   Meet Bob at East Croydon Station at…

Evening Walk to Beckenham Place Park

Tuesday 6th August

Meet at East Croydon tram stop to get the tram to Beckenham Junction about 7pm.    Then walk to Beckenham Place Park to see the new lake. About a 2 hour walk by the time we return to the tram terminus. Time for a drink in a nearby pub.

Bee Walk at RSPB Dungeness on the Kent coast

Saturday 17th August

The walk lasts from 60 -90 minutes, led by Nikki Gammens from the Bumblebee Conservation Trust.   It will start at 2pm from the reserve and will end at 3.30. There is no charge but a small donation to the trust is suggested. Walk around Arundel plus visit to the Festival

Meet at East Croydon Station at 9.35 to get the 9.53 train to Amberley.   Walk from there to Arundel, about 4 miles, arriving about 12.30. Return home from Arundel, trains every half hour.   Lots of things to see at the festival

Gatliff – mini challenge walk, the 2019 Gatliff 25km route revealed

Sunday 15th September

Challenge yourself to a 15 and a half mile walk and in the process see this year’s Gatliff 25km route.   Pleasant, changing countryside in East Surrey and West Kent.   Meet at East Croydon railway station at 8am with packed food and drink to keep you going.   There is a pub two thirds of the way around but no time to grab a meal there just a drink and use the facilities.  Help try out the draft Gatliff…
