DESCRIPTION:Stephen Best will be telling us about his recent trip to the UAE\, where for part of his trip he travelled about 2\,500km in four days through all seven Emirates. He visited a variety of different man-made and natural attractions\, from hyper modern cities\, such as Dubai and Abu Dubai with sights such as the world’s tallest building and the huge Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque\, to the more traditional city of Al Ain. This has many palaces\, forts and a lush green oasis. Stephen also went to the rustic and isolated mountain town of Hatta\, the majestic Hajar Mountains\, and the vast Rub’ al Khali\, otherwise known as the Empty Quarter\, the largest sand desert in the world\, and to the spectacular Liwa Oasis. DESCRIPTION:A six mile walk followed by some “messing about on the water” \nThis is a boat trip and walk along the Regents Canal\, from Little Venice to the Thames path.  At this point we will use clipper to get back to London Bridge for the train back to East Croydon.\nMeet at East Croydon Station at 9am for the 09.30 train to London Victoria.  Then the tube to Paddington\, Central Line and on to catch the 11 am London Waterbus (a barge that runs from Little Venice to Camden – cost £8.50).  We will have a break at Camden for a drink\, before walking along the  Regents Canal though Islington\, Mile End and onto the Thames. \nOnce at the Thames\, and at the end of our walk\, we can catch clipper to London Bridge.  for trains to East Croyden. \nDogs not allowed on the Barge\, so if you want to meet me at Camden and bring your dog you are most welcome. \nLunch can be enjoyed at one of the many places along the canal\, or you can bring a packed lunch and eat it alongside the canal.\nThis is a lovely way to see the best of London in one day.\nHope you join me… \n

DESCRIPTION:Explore Dieppe\, Rouen and La Manche by bike over the August Bank Holiday. Cycle around 30 miles per day. \nDetails: \nFriday 26 August 2016 –  depart Croydon by train around 21:00; catch 23:00 ferry from Newhaven to Dieppe.  Arrive Dieppe 05:00 local time.  £35 return (no cabin\, catch some shut eye in lounge / bar / lobby seating areas or extra £75 for berth in cabin; crossing is 5 hours). \nSaturday 27 August –  catch a light breakfast / coffee before leaving ferry; cycle to a town to find breakfast; cycle in all around 30 miles\, back in time for a mid afternoon  siesta; evening – meal out \nSunday 28 August –  cycle around 30 miles hopefully visit Rouen for its great cathedral during the weekend. \nMonday 29 August – cycle 20 to 30 miles\, take in channel coast (La Manche) for a swim; catch 18:00 ferry from Dieppe to Newhaven; (crossing is 4 hours) arrive Newhaven 21:00 UK time\, catch train back to Croydon. \n‘Avenue Verte’ – this is the continuation of ‘route 21’ in England (Greenwich(?) to Newhaven)\, and links London with Paris via a mainly off road cycle route.  We may do part of this.

DESCRIPTION: A camping weekend with the option of a guided tour round a historical brewery.\nThe campsite is at Holt Farm\, Napton-on-the-Hill\, Warwickshire\, a lovely flat campsite\, reasonable prices and a great pub a short walk down the canal.  What more could you want?\nThere is an option of booking a tour round the Hook Norton Brewery\, near Banbury\, Oxfordshire for the Saturday.  This is a traditional Victorian Tower Brewery\, a historical site complete with the original stationary steam engine which will be running.  This originally provided the power for all the equipment in the brewery\, and did so till recently.\nThe brewery still has shire horses pulling a dray for local deliveries\, they will be in action also.
