I’m organising a trip to Elterwater Hostel (formerly a YHA hostel, now independent) in the Lake District in April. I’m planning on staying for 5 nights so as to have 4 whole days up there. Obviously the idea is to get on to them there hills. The Old Man of Coniston (which I haven’t climbed for over 30 years) is nearby, so it’s a chance for some old men (and women) to climb the Old Man! Maybe also Helvetian. The hostel, being an ex YH, is a lovely old building with 6 bedded rooms (about £30 pppn) and twin rooms (about £40 pppn) in a small village with a choice of pubs.

You can go by train to Windermere, then by bus. Car Lifts Full.
