River Bourne: talk by Roger Packham

Tuesday 17th June @ 8:15 pm to 10:00 pm

The Morris Dancing evening has been rescheduled for 1st July.

What’s the Bourne?

The undiscovere’d country, from whose bourn
No traveller returns, puzzles the will,
And makes us rather bear those ills we have
Than fly to others that we know not of?
Nope, Shakespeare had no clue.
It’s actually the mysterious intermittent stream that flows from Caterham to Croydon. On the rare occasions when it rises it is said to foretell doom and disaster and was known as The Woe Waters.
This talk by historian Roger Packham (of The Bourne Society) draws on an extensive historic postcard collection to describe each of these parishes and to unravel the secrets of the mysterious Bourne.

Another riveting talk to enliven your Tuesday evening!
