Limpsfield Chart Afternoon Walk
Sunday 16th February
Meet on Limpsfield Chart Green, by the St Andrew’s Church Hall, at 12noon.
This walk suits driving, there is no problem parking. I recommend the car park by the Church, but anywhere will do. If you are coming by car, and you can offer a lift, please let me know, and if you want to come, but you don’t have a car, please let me know too, so we can match you up as needed.
If you are planning to come on public transport, then this is feasible, though it turns it into a walk about three times longer. Hurst Green and Oxted stations are equidistant, both around 3 miles from the start. No Sunday service on the 495 Bus.
The walking on Limpsfield Chart is varied and rich. There are super ancient and modern woods, massive views South, spectacular homes, a cute village green and a charming pub, the Carpenters Arms. The current plan is to drink beer and eat crisps in the bar at the end of the route, standing if no seats are free.
It’s planned as a gentle walk, expecting to be no more than 90 minutes on the hoof. Heading clockwise, South, from the green, down and back up the Southern hillside of the Greensand Ridge. This walk gives maximum views, fewer trees, South facing for more daylight and is mainly hard under foot, though there will also be unavoidable mud, so beware.
From the Green, by Saint Andrew’s Church, crossing South over the B269 Kent Hatch Road, down the private drive to Trevereux Manor. Onwards via Moat Farm to Tenchley’s Manor. Back up the hill to the top of the ridge, by “Champions Cottage” to recross the B269 and pop out right by the pub.
The whole area is criss crossed with footpaths, the Greensand Way, Vanguard Way, Tandridge Border Path and more. It’s all lovely, and you can take a demanding all day walk through this area too.
On this walk we are planning a less strenuous but equally lovely shorter walk. We aren’t starting so early, so this is a “winter destress” not a “winter challenge”, allowing other activities to be planned into the day. This is a “fit in between chores and other commitments” event.
